How Can You Prevent Common Foot Problems?

  1. Shoes − check with your podiatrist to be sure you’re wearing the correct shoe size and support

  2. Socks − fungus thrives in moist, dark areas... like inside your boots; get proper absorbent socks

  3. Safety − Be careful, slow down! Rushing increases your risk for injury

If you have been in the same shoe size for many years, it’s time to get measured! Our feet flatten as we get older and our shoe size changes.

Common Winter Foot Problems:

  1. Dry, Itchy Feet − Believe it or not, both of these complaints will often root from the same problem! Warm, dark, humid environments create a delightful home for fungus! Dry feet are a sign of sweaty feet and sweaty feet are a precursor to fungal feet.

  2. Heel Pain − You’re shopping and all the while your feet are taking a beating. Increased activity, weight changes, improper shoes can all lead to serious, unmanageable foot pain. Be sure to wear great supportive shoes all through this activity packed season.

  3. Ankle Sprains − You have so much to do... FAST. Decorating, shopping, sightseeing... all this activity in such a short amount of time can significantly increase your chances for sprained ankles. Again, be sure you’re wearing the correct shoes for your activity, and slow it down.

Insurance Tips for 2011

Please be advised that Medicare open enrollment is now.

When making the decision to switch to a Medicare replacement insurance, we suggest that you contact ALL of your current physicians to make sure that they participate with the plans that you are considering. Physicians are not obligated to accept insurances that they do not participate with.

Not all plans are created equally. Make sure that you are selecting a plan that suits both your financial and health needs.

Take into consideration what your premiums, co-payments, co-insurances, deductibles, and out of pocket fees may cost you.

Read the benefits book to better educate yourself as to what the insurance company may or may not cover. You may have a health concern and need procedures that may not be covered by your insurance, or may be covered at a lesser rate.

If you decide to change insurance companies, make sure that you notify ALL of your physicians prior to your appointment.

When you have questions in regards to your individual insurance plan, we always recommend that you contact your insurance company.

Insurance deductibles start over on January 1, 2011. Medicare has raised the calendar year deductible for beneficiaries to $162.00 for 2011. Not all secondary or supplemental insurances cover your deductible, and you will be responsible for payment at time of service.
